Mt. Biking: Coed y Brenin - The Beast Wind Direction: N/A Wind Stength: Calm Surf / Sea State: N/A Air Temperature: 10ÂșC Sea Temperature: N/A Weather: Cloudy Max Speed: Distance Covered: 23 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Steve and I met at the Coed y brenin car park around 9am and set off to do
The Beast trail which is essentially a combination of 'The Dragons Back'
and the 'MBR' trails.
The first bit was quite rocky and bumpy and we were beginngin to wish we
had full suspension bikes, then there were a few climbs followed by the
amazing flowing descent of 'the Pink Heiffer' and 'The Big Dug'. Some
fire-road climbs and nice double track across open countryside before the
very technical descent of Gomez (which I couldn't ride) and quite a few
other good technical singletrack sections.
All in all an excellent trail with lots of variety and tonnes of really
good single track. Steve had mechanical problems and ended up pushing his
bike for the last few miles and the problems were holding him up most of
the way around. We took it fairly leisurely with lots of little stops to
chat to people on the way and admire the views and it took us exactly 3
hours, but could be done quite a bit quicker.
I'll certainly be back for more.
